Cut a cartridge paper or blank sheet to a reasonable size and write various transition words or phrases on them. Make up any sentence and have the child find a transition word/phrase from the card pack to complete the sentence. Take for example, the sentence " Malaya loves eating healthily. ________________, she loves to play with her dolls. Among the transition words on the cards could be otherwise, later, yet or in addition.

This activity will help the child with his or her essay writing skills as well as all forms of writing. Remember to make the activity fun so they do not become bored. In addition, you can use sentence strips and have them place the transition words that they think completes each sentence or you can verbally state the sentence and have them "go fish" for the transition words.
