READING IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE TO YOUNG CHILDREN OVERALL SUCCESS. MANY STUDIES REFLECT THAT READING MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE TO THE EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCE OF CHILDREN. LIKEWISE, WHEN A CHILD READS DAILY FOR ENJOYMENT THEY TEND TO PERFORM BETTER IN READING ACTIVITIES AS WELL AS DEVELOP A BROADER VOCABULARY, INCREASED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND THEIR EXPOSURE TO LANGUAGE.

TEACHERS ALONE CAN'T HELP YOUR CHILD TO READ TO THEIR MAXIMUM POTENTIAL AND AS SUCH IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT PARENTS ASSIST IN THE PROCESS.
TIPS
1. GET TO KNOW THE LEARNING STYLE OF YOUR CHILD. DOES YOUR CHILD PREFER TO USE IMAGES OR PICTURES? THEN YOUR CHILD IS A VISUAL LEARNER. DOES YOUR CHILD PREFER TO USE SOUND OR MUSIC? THEN YOUR CHILD IS AN AURAL LEARNER.DOES YOUR CHILD LOVE TO USE WORDS IN BOTH SPEECH AND WRITING? THEN YOUR CHILD IS A VERBAL LEARNER.

2. ENCOURAGE GOOD READING HABITS AT HOME. SET ASIDE A TIME DESIGNATED ONLY FOR READING. TO MAKE IT FUN ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO CHOOSE A BOOK OF HIS OR HER CHOICE.

3. SET UP A MINI LIBRARY AT HOME WITH VARIOUS GENRES OF BOOKS AND NEWSPAPER ARTICLES.

4. HAVE READING HUNTS WITH YOUR CHILD. PLACE SENTENCE STRIPSIN DIFFERENT SAFE PLACES WITHIN THE HOME FOR CHILD TO SEARCH AND READ ONCE FOUND.

5. UTILIZE VARIOUS READING WEBSITES SUCH AS READING ROCKETS, STARFALL AND ABC MOUSE.
